The whole day
crisp clean heat,
shimmering blankets unfold from black pavement.
Cars sweat exhaust around slick limbs.
A dirty automobile caress
less across breast
as light changes green
and cars move again.
More road with islands of green
pocketed by paved sidewalk,
soft earthy breaks from the dullness
and unforgiving rhythm
of pavement and asphalt.
Home after hill
climbed with practiced ease,
sweat only now really showing.
